The Market As I See It

The 2021 Lamorinda housing market was unprecedented and red-hot last year. Home supply dropped to one of the lowest levels in history.

2022 will continue to be a sellers’ market. Inventory will not keep up with demand. Out-of-area buyers will continue to see Lamorinda as an ideal place to live…. and keep on coming our way with their winning “rogue” bids. They have been priced out on the Peninsula, South Bay, Marin, and SF. Lamorinda homes have become their focus. Our commute, location, weather, and schools are desirable, unbeatable, and affordable!

First-time homeowners are anxious to move up into larger homes. They are smartly improving and getting ready to sell. Bridge loans, credit lines, and relationships with their banks and family should all be part of their arsenal to sell and then buy a new home.

In our seller’s market, prices will remain high, and price growth will begin to slow down, primarily due to expected rising interest rates. Good homes will continue to sell quickly, and competition will remain fierce.

As we move toward the new year, many are thinking about new resolutions, new habits and new beginnings. But are you thinking about new colors? For the past 20 years, Pantone has chosen a Color of the Year to guide design trends as we dive into the future. And the official shade of 2020? Classic Blue (19-4052).

According to Pantone, the color is meant to instill “calm, confidence and connection,” as well as “highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.”

The color is chosen based on trend analysis conducted by the company’s color experts, who examine both emotional trends and color influences in the entertainment industry, art, fashion, textiles and even popular events, like sports. 2019 Color of the Year selected by Benjamin Moore paint company

The 2019 Color of the Year was just announced by Benjamin Moore, a leading manufacturer in quality residential and commercial paint. They selected Metropolitan AF-690 to be popular for next year.

The color — a light gray shade — was revealed at an exclusive event for interior designers, architects and influencers at the Seagram Building in New York City.

“Comforting, composed and effortlessly sophisticated, Metropolitan AF-690 exudes beauty and balance,” says Ellen O’Neill, Benjamin Moore director of strategic design intelligence. “It’s a color in the neutral spectrum that references a contemplative state of mind and design. Not arresting nor aggressive, this understated yet glamorous gray creates a soothing, impactful common ground.”

2018 Color of the Year. Dramatic and provocative!

Pantone, the authority in color for design, fashion and more, recently debuted its 2018 Color of the Year: “Ultra Violet.” The color—”dramatically provocative and thoughtful,” according to the company—is cool and cosmic, with an otherworldly vibe.

“We are living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to Pantone 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level. From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expression and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”

At home, the hue can be incorporated sparingly or as a statement, from artwork to furniture to walls. Experts at the Paint Quality Institute (PQI) are forecasting rich, spirited tones, including deep blues and purples, while paint providers Dunn-Edwards, Pratt & Lambert and Sherwin-Williams are predicting a blue-green range of shades.
